Some translations involve different legal systems which not only belong to different countries, but also to different legal families. An example of this would be a UK contract written in English to be translated into Spanish for use in Spain. Here, the role of the translator would not only be to accurately convey the content of the source document, but also to deal with two very different legal systems – UK common law and Spanish civil law.
